There are many icons of horror that convey character, theme or a motifs for the genre.   RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS Religion is often a significant theme in horror movies such as The Exorcist or The Rite. Symbols that appear frequently in them are crucifixes, satanic symbols or voodoo. SYMBOLS OF DEATH Death is represented through props and motifs; coffins, gravestones or skeletons. General definition, information – The BBFC and PEGI are the two organisations who certificate and rate media products. The BBFC are an non-government regulatory body to which films are submitted for classification based on their content. PEGI used descriptors that are placed on the back of the video games packaging. These descriptors explain the main reason behind why games have been given a particular age rating. NARRATIVE ESSAY

In horror films and trailers, according to theorists Bordwell and Thompson, narrative is “a chain of events in a cause-effect relationship occurring in time”. Narrative can be organised in a sequence of events that are in chronological order, to create conflict or realism and mystery for the audience. I will be using my trailer, The Last Ones Left, to apply, analyse and evaluate how the narratives fulfil their purpose. The first narrative theory I will be applying is Todorov’s three act structure; equilibrium, disequilibrium and resolution. However, in most trailers the resolution isn’t shown in order to create suspense and to coax the audience to wanting to see more by going to watch the film.  In the trailer, The Last Ones Left, we displayed the equilibrium through found-footage style editing to give the audience an idea of the plot and what the film would entail.
